LOS ANGELES-AREA INDEPENDENT RECORD SHOPS

Just say NO to the big corporate chains ...

Here's where I buy my records. This is not meant to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list. You may have your own favorite shops that I just don't happen to frequent. Further information and reviews forthcoming when I get the time. (time ... *sigh*)

Aron's Records, Hollywood
I'm finding I shop here less and less -- not-so-big folk/roots section, and attitudinal staff. Lots of vinyl, though. If I start finding more neat stuff in the vinyl section I'll say nicer things.

Penny Lane Records, various locations around L.A.
Decent selection, usually lots of interesting used stuff, and import singles.

Poo-Bah Records, Pasadena.

Rhino Records, Westwood
Rhino rules. I've been shopping at this place since my first month in Los Angeles, way back in 1982. Great selection, knowledgeable staff, lots of used CDs and vinyl. The comfort food of L.A. record stores, at least for me.

Rockaway Records, 2395 Glendale Blvd, Silverlake
Lots and lots of used vinyl ... need I say more? Independent music, R&B, rock, and more. Cool store.
