Chuck's Photo Gallery:
Travels

In 1987, I took my first trip outside the U.S. (except for Ensenada, Mexico in 1985, which almost doesn't count). I was bitten by the travel bug and I'm now hooked.

Here's some shots of my travels, within my home state of Louisiana, to Ireland, Russia, and my big 1996 eastern European trip to Slovenia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. I'll have tons more photos online once I get 'em scanned ... enjoy!

Louisiana

[Pete Fountain at Reunion Hall] New Orleanian traditional jazz clarinetist Pete Fountain, performing in his club Reunion Hall at the 1984 New Orleans World's Fair.

Ireland

[Irish music session] An impromptu traditional music seisiún, or session, on the streets of Kilkenny, Ireland, during the 1988 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, the All-Ireland Traditional Music Festival. That big fella on the right with the spot of blood on his cheek had just gotten into a big fight in the bar, stormed out of the place, drunk and belligerent, and was being pretty terrifying ... until he heard the session, produced a flute from somewhere and joined in. He was brilliant.

Russia

[Tovarishch Chuck] Me standing across from the Kremlin in Moscow, in March of 1993, looking (I'm told) very Slavic. This is the same spot where all the foreign correspondents stand to do their news reports. Ah, I can see it now ... "This is Chuck Taggart, CNN, Moscow ..."

[Demonstrating for democracy] Another one of me in Moscow, this time in the middle of a pro-democracy demonstration outside the Kremlin. We couldn't get into the Kremlin or even Red Square (after travelling all that way) because that was the day then-Speaker of the Parliament Ruslan Khasbulatov decided to start trying to impeach Boris Yeltsin, and he didn't want any tourists hanging around. Bastard. He tried a coup next, and finally got his comeuppance.
