     Jolly, AKA George Landry, the Neville Brothers' uncle.  This
     album features backup by the Neville Brothers and the Meters.

     TRADITIONAL CAJUN MUSIC/Swallow]  The traditional Cajun Mardi Gras
     song.
LES QUATRES VIEUX GARCONS - Mardi Gras Jig [LES QUATRES VIEUX GARCONS/
     Folkways]  Dewey & Tony Balfa, Tracy & Peter Schwarz, "The Four
     Bachelors".  An old Cajun tune, dating back to the previous century.
     Fantastic percussion provided by "fiddlesticks", two long thin dowels
     that the percussionist beats on the fiddle strings while the fiddler
     is playing.
JOHN DELAFOSE - Mardi Gras Song [UNCLE BUD ZYDECO/Arhoolie]  John's
     jumping zydeco-ized version.
GENO DELAFOSE - French Rockin' Boogie [FRENCH ROCKIN' BOOGIE/Rounder]
     Geno's playing at the Alligator Lounge in Santa Monica on Mardi
     Gras night.  Hoo hoo! Can't wait!
NATHAN ABSHIRE & THE BALFA BROTHERS ORCHESTRA - Acadian Two-Step [THE
     CAJUNS, VOLUME 1/Gazell]  Love those twin fiddles from Will and Dewey.
MARC SAVOY with MICHAEL DOUCET - Mardi Gras Song [OH WHAT A NIGHT!/
     Arhoolie]  Yet another arrangement.  There are so many arrangements
     of this song that it's almost a different song depending on who's
     playing it.  Very rhythmic, lots of pedal steel, Marc's accordion
     pumping away, and Mike evoking Amedee Ardoin in his vocals.  Yeah!
 
THE METERS - They All Axed For You [FUNKIFY YOUR LIFE: THE METERS
     ANTHOLOGY/Rhino]  FINALLY!  There's so much great rare stuff on
     this compilation ... like this.  I grew up with this song, and
     it's been very hard to find for years.

THE GOLDEN EAGLES - Two-Way-Pak-E-Way [LIGHTNING AND THUNDER/Rounder]
     It doesn't get any rawer or rootsier than this.  Vocals and percussion
     only, recorded live at the H&R Bar in New Orleans.
THE WILD TCHOUPITOULAS - Indian Red [THE WILD TCHOUPITOULAS/Antilles]
    The classic Mardi Gras black Indian song, sung by many black
    Indian tribes at opening invocations.
CHAMPION JACK DUPREE with BIG CHIEF BO DOLLIS and DR. JOHN - Yella
     Pocahontas [MARDI GRAS INDIANS SUPER SUNDAY SHOWDOWN/Rounder]
     Jack Dupree, besides being a pianist, composer, songwriter,
     painter and boxer, was a member of the Yellow Pocahontas tribe
     when he lived in New Orleans.  Great album!

     Rerelease of 1969 album of all Jimmie Rodgers songs.  Fantastic,
     primarily acoustic, roots country music.
JUNIOR BROWN - My Wife Thinks You're Dead [GUIT WITH IT/Curb]  Another
     recent show in town I'm annoyed I missed ...

     I've been looking for this for ages.  I still haven't, but thanks to
     Dave Gershwin for lending this to me this week.

     Matt Johnson.  But fun!
