Guest appearance by Peter Ostroushko on several tracks. THE GERALDINE FIBBERS - Fancy [7"/Big Jesus Enterprises] Their 10" vinyl EP GET THEE GONE was on my faves list, but his one just came in, in a limited edition of 1000, right on the heels of their getting signed. Alternative country/punk, sublime and riotous. And great! THE BUCKS - The Bucks Set: The Maid of Mt. Cisco/Bird in the Bush/ The Star of Munster/The Bucks of Oranmore/The Hunter's House [DANCIN' TO THE CEILI BAND/WEA Ireland] The brilliant debutfrom the new band fearturing Ron Kavana and Terry Woods. One of the best of '94, and one of the best contemporary Irish albums in years. Too bad Woods has bailed already, but Kavana and the rest will continue. THE NEVILLE BROTHERS - Brother Jake [LIVE ON PLANET EARTH/A&M] CRESCENT CITY GOLD - Hang Tough [THE ULTIMATE SESSION/High Street] Allen Toussaint, Mac Rebennack, Lee Allen, and many more great New Orleans musicians combine talents for this appropriately titled recording. SONNY LANDRETH - Creole Angel [SOUTH OF I-10/Zoo/ DAMA & D'GARY with MICHAEL DOUCET - Mpanjono Mody (The Fisherman's Return) [THE LONG WAY HOME/Shanachie] Brilliant acoustic Malagasy roots music. One of the best albums I've bought in years, and the #1 most-requested album in '93 (the year I didn't get to do a best-of show ...) By request. the subdudes - Angel To Be [ANNUNCIATION/High Street] Wonderful third album from these New Orleanians expatriate in Colorado. Soulful, funky folk-rock with a second-line groove.
