     a friend of his, a young gay Irish emigrant in New York who
     won't let the bashers get him down.  Clanging guitars, uilleann
     pipes and a urgent beat ... great stuff.

 GABRIEL YACOUB - Le Plus Rapide des Oiseaux [QUATRE/BP]  Fourth solo
     effort from French singer/songwriter, formerly of Malicorne.
 DEAN MAGRAW - Turn the Key [BROKEN SILENCE/Red House]  A good friend of
     mine, who is himself a fairly astonishing guitarist, heard Dean
     on my show a while back and is now a rabid fan!

     A twelve-minute extravaganza!  I can't wait to get my hands on the
     new Kavana/Terry Woods album!
 DEANTA - Ready for the Storm [READY FOR THE STORM/Green Linnet]  Gorgeous
     vocals from Mary Dillon on the Dougie Maclean cover; second album
     from this young band from the north of Ireland.  Wonderful stuff.

 FLACO JIMENEZ - Open Up Your Heart [FLACO JIMENEZ/Arista]  A bilingual
     Buck Owens tune that I grew to love from early Iguanas shows.
 CAFE TACUBA - La Ingrata [RE/WEA Latina]  Amazing stuff from this Mexican
     alternative band with heavy traditional influence.
 
 WILCO - The T.B. Is Whipping Me [RED HOT + COUNTRY/Mercury]  Rarely do I
     play the same track two weeks in a row, but I've been waitin' for
     this one.  Backing vocals by Syd Straw.
 JIMMIE DALE GILMORE with WILLIE NELSON - Crazy [RED HT + COUNTRY/Mercury]
     A caller told me that when he first heard this, for a few crazy 
     moments he thought the singer was Big BIrd from "Sesame Street" ...
     well, Big Bird after twenty years of cheap whiskey, maybe ...

 MERLE HAGGARD - Mama Tried [MORE OF THE BEST/Rhino]  The _Los Angeles
     Times_, noting that Merle was just inducted into the Country Music
     Hall of Fame, complained that he rarely gets airplay in favor of
     the pop-country pap of Nashville.  Pshaw.  I'm gonna play him for
     the next month, at least.
