     Opening Theme:
ALIAS RON KAVANA - Soweto Trembles (The Jo'burg Jig)
                         [THINK LIKE A HERO/Chiswick Records]

BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO - Trust Me [FIVE-CARD STUD/Island] Produced by Los Lobos'
Steve Berlin. Quite a departure from straight zydeco into R&B and
     even old rock 'n roll.
ZACHARY RICHARD - Dancin' at Double D'l [SNAKE BITE LOVE/A&M]
LIL' QUEENIE AND THE PERCOLATORS - My Darlin' New Orleans [7" single/
Great Southern Records] My listeners keep requesting this!
THE HUMPFF FAMILY - Self-Pity Waltz [MOTHERS/Iona Records] Wonderfully
motley-looking folk/pop band out of Scotland; lotsa fun.
DAVID GRAY - What Are You? [FLESH/Hut] Marvelous new stuff from Welsh
singer-songwriter, and captures the energy of his live performances.

THE PALACE BROTHERS - You Will Miss Me When I Burn [THE PALACE BROTHERS/
Drag City] An unexpected new release from Palace, which on this
record sounds more like just Will Oldham and an acoustic guitar.
     Stark and beautiful.
ELVIS COSTELLO - Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down [ALMOST BLUE/Ryko] Just
re-mastered and re-released with extra tracks. Some people were
shocked at the time ... "Elvis has gone country!" ... but this is
     terrific stuff.
BLUE RODEO - Photograph [FIVE DAYS IN MAY/Discovery] Country-rock band
out of Toronto, with some sweet pedal steel on this track.
ELVIS COSTELLO - A Good Year For The Roses [ALMOST BLUE/Ryko]
JEFF & JANET - Return of the Grievous Angel [JESUS BUILT A SHIP TO SING
     A SONG TO/Kokopop] A country/folk duo I know almost nothing about,
doing a whole album of gorgeous Gram Parsons covers.

THE IGUANAS - Boom Boom Boom [NUEVO BOOGALOO/Margaritaville-MCA] By
     request.
FERNEST ARCENEAUX & THE ZYDECO ALL-STARS - I'm On My Way Back Home
ZYDECO BLUES PARTY/Mardi Gras] Fernests's latest, with 4 members
     of Clifton Chenier's heyday-era band.
NATHAN ABSHIRE - Pine Grove Blues [A CAJUN TRADITION, VOL. 2/La Louisianne]
DR. JOHN - Mama Roux [GRIS GRIS/Alligator]

EL VEZ - La Negra [GRACIASLAND/Sympathy for the Record Industry] Himself,
"The Mexican Elvis", is back, joined by the Elvettes on b.g. vocals
and a smokin' band. "El Vez in *not* an Elvis impersonator; El Vez
is a *stimulation*." -- J. Rene Coman, of the Iguanas.
CAFE TACUBA - Ixtepec [RE/WEA Latina] One of the premier Mexican
alternative rocanrol en Espanol bands; ranges from traditionally-based
sounds to some wonderfully noisy stuff.
MALDITA VECINDAD - Kumbala [EL CIRCO/BMG Ariola] Another top Mexican
     alternative band, IMNSHO the best.
DON SANTIAGO JIMENEZ - Ay Te Dejo en San Antonio [HIS FIRST AND LAST
     RECORDINGS/Arhoolie]

TOMMY KEANE - Slip Jigs: Will You come Down to Limerick?/The Piper's Apron/
     Give Us A Drink Of Water [THE PIPER'S APRON/Mulligan] Keane's a piper
well-known in traditional circles, and also has played with bands
ranging from the Pogues to Kenya's Abana ba Nasery. Joined by Brendan
O'Regan on bouzouki and Tommy Hayes on bodhran, this set feckin'
     *SMOKES*!

THE JAYHAWKS - Waiting For the Sun [HOLLYWOOD TOWN HALL/American]
THE REIVERS - Other Side [POP BELOVED/dB Records]
COLORBLIND JAMES EXPERIENCE - Considering A Move to Memphis [THE COLORBLIND
     JAMES EXPERIENCE/Fundamental Music]

 U. SRINIVAS - Kaliyugavaradana [RAMA SREERAMA/Real World] 25-year-old
Indian mandolin genius, who plays Carnatic ragas on an instrument
that was completely alien to Indian music until he was six and picked
one up. Accompanied by violin and claypot percussion.
PETER OSTROUSHKO - Co. Kerry to Kiev Medley: McIntyre's Hornpipe/The
Mist on the Lake/McIntyre's Reel [SLUZ DUZ MUSIC/Rounder] A
decidedly different combination of fiddle and mandolin ...

JEZ LOWE - Back in Durham Gaol [BACK SHIFT/Fellside]
RICHARD THOMPSON - Bogie's Bonnie Belle [WATCHING THE DARK/Hannibal]
