 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     Opening Theme:
     ALIAS RON KAVANA - Soweto Trembles (The Jo'burg Jig)
                         [THINK LIKE A HERO/Chiswick Records]
 GENO DELAFOSE - Ris et la Gres [FRENCH ROCKIN' BOOGIE/Rounder]
 HARRY CONNICK, JR. - Here Comes the Big Parade [SHE/Columbia]  Well well
     well!  It seems that Harry is finally recording and performing the
     kind of stuff he learned at James Booker's knee when we was a sprout.
     Funky stuff here, with a much rawer quality to his voice; no more
     Sinatra shtick!  Featuring Leo Nocentelli on guitar and Zig Modeliste
     on drums.  Yowza.
 UNCLE TUPELO - True To Life [STILL FEEL GONE/Rockville]
 KATELL KEINEG - Destiny's Darling [O SEASONS O CASTLES/Elektra]  Brittany-
     born, longtime Dublin resident and fixture on that local music scene
     finally releases a record. Stellar singing and songwriting; maybe a
     little too produced for my taste.  I"ll keep listening, while still
     highly recommending it.
 BRUCE DAIGREPONT - Petit Mamou [PETIT CADEAU/Rounder]  A Wade Fruge tune.
 JUAN LUIS GUERRA - Los Mangos Bajitos [FOGARATE!/Karen-BMG]  Master of
     merengue teams with accordion whiz Francisco Ulloa and Zairian guitar
     god Diblo Dibala on this, his latest.  Picante!
 LOS FABULOSOS CADILLACS - Arde Buenos Aires [EL LEON/Sony Discos]  Salsa
     and reggae influenced "rocanrol en Espanol" from Argentina.
 THE IGUANAS - El Orangutan [NUEVO BOOGALOO/Margaritavile-MCA]
 SILVIO RODRIGUEZ - Playa Giron [CANCIONES URGENTES/Luaka Bop-Warner Bros]
     The great Cuban salsa and folk-pop singer.  Great stuff.
 MALDITA VECINDAD - Querida [EL CIRCO/BMG-Ariola]  Punk-ska version of
     Juan Gabriel ballad.  Great fun!  By request.
 PETE DROGE - If You Don't Love Me, I'll Kill Myself [NECKTIE SECOND/
     American Recordings]
 THE CAVEDOGS - Glass Eye [SIX TENDER MOMENTS ep/Capitol]  The band is no
     more, but I still like them.  An acoustic performance from KCRW, on
     SNAP, in 1990.
 BOB DYLAN - It's Alright Ma, I'm Only Bleeding [BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME/
     Columbia]  By request.
 FREAKWATER - Drunk Friend [FEELS LIKE THE THIRD TIME/Thrill Jockey]
     Great indie acoustic-alternative-country band.
 RUNRIG - Rocket to the Moon [ONCE IN A LIFETIME/Chrysalia UK]
 MAC-TALLA - Puirt-a-beul:  Domhnall dubh an domhnallach ... [MAIRIDH
     GAOL IS CEOL/Temple]
 ANDY M. STEWART - Land O' The Leal [MAN IN THE MOON/Green Linnet]
 VINNIE KILDUFF - Reels:  Jackie Coleman's/John Brosnan's/Touch Me If You
     Dare [TEH BOYS FROM THE BLUE HILL/Mulligan]  Known as an uilleann
     piper, Vinnie concentrates on whistle here.  Guest appearances from
     Brendan O'Regan, Tommy Hayes, and more.
 MICHELLE SHOCKED with HOTHOUSE FLOWERS - Over the Waterfall [ARKANSAS
     TRAVELER/Mercury]  By request.
 And a weird, wonderful and varied set of music from Scandinavian artists ...
 HEDNINGARNA - Fulinghalling [HEDNINGARNA/Alice Musik]  Second release from
     the brilliant Swedish traditional/experimental band.  There's been
     a streamlining of personnel, and more of a swing toward the traditional,
     but this original composition is wonderfully weird, with a breathy
     low whistle and didgeridoo.
 TROKA - Klockar Aleksanteri [TROKA/Olarin Musiikki]  Trad tune from very
     young and very talented Finnish folk band.
 ANDERS OSBORNE -  Having a Good Time Too [BREAK THE CHAIN/Rabadash]
     Swedish singer-songwriter and resident of New Orleans.  He's absorbed
     lots of local influences, and has a great band.  Funky and folky.
 KNUT REIERSRUD with THE FIVE BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA - You Ought to Treat
     a Stranger Right [FOOTWORK/Shanachie]  Norwegian traditional and blues
     influenced singer-guitarist, with a host of African musicians and the
     Five Blind Boys, doing a gospel song.  Inspired by Knut's 1993 trip
     to west Africa and recorded in Oslo.  Wow.
 DAMA MAHALEO & D'GARY - Mitady Kandra (Searching For Work) [THE LONG WAY
     HOME/Shanachie] Another in Henry Kaiser and David Lindley's stunning
     series of recordings from Madagascar.  With Michael Doucet on fiddle!
 DAVID LINDLEY - Afindrafindrao [OUT ON THE ROLLING SEA: A TRIBUTE TO TEH
     MUSIC OF JOSEPH SPENCE/Hokey Pokey]  I'm not sure what this track is
     doing on this (terrific) album, but I don't care.  Lindley plays this
     Malagasy classic on solo bouzouki, and as is his usual talent, gets it
     to sound like it's being played on a valiha.  Lindley is god!
 MAGNAPOP - Texas [HOT BOXING/Priority] Georgia alternative combo, produced
     by Bob Mould.  A touch of noise at 2am ...
 BOB MOULD & VIC CHESNUTT - Hickory Wind [CONMEMORATIVO: A TRIBUTE TO
     GRAM PARSONS/Rhino]
 BAD LIVERS - Where They Do Not Know My Name [HORSES IN THE MINES/Quarter-
     staff Records]  Another in the acoustic-with-an-ege bands, gonzo
     bluegrass-country.
 BOO HEWERDINE & DARDEN SMITH - Oil On The Water [EVIDENCE/Chrysalis]  By
     request.
 ROBERT LOWERY & VIRGIL THRASHER - Baby Please Don't Go [WWOZ ON CD: THE
     SOUNDS OF NEW ORLEANS/Friends of WWOZ]  'OZ does a "Rare on Air"
     of their own, long overdue.  Recorded live at teh 1993 Jazz & Heritage
     Festival.
 PROF. LONGHAIR - Junco Partner [HOUSE PARTY NEW ORLEANS STYLE: THE LOST
     SESSIONS, 1971-72/Rounder]  With Snooks Eaglin and Zig Modeliste.
 GENO DELAFOSE - Wedding Day Waltz [FRENCH ROCKIN' BOOGIE/Rounder]  An
     original instrumental composition.  By request.
 TASSO - Two-Step de la Tete au Vache [VIENS A MA MAISON/Swallow]
 FREEDY JOHNSTON - Delores [THIS PERFECT WORLD/Elektra]
 JOE HENRY - John Hanging [SHUFFLETOWN/A&M]
 THE HIX - High on a Mountain [THE HIX]  With FOLKDJ-L's own Keith Brand
     on vocals.
 DEAN MAGRAW - Soul in Motion [BROKEN SILENCE/Acoustic Music]
