 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     Opening Theme:
     ALIAS RON KAVANA - Soweto Trembles (The Jo'burg Jig)
                         [THINK LIKE A HERO/Chiswick Records]
 GENO DELAFOSE - Je ne apprecie pas ca [FRENCH ROCKIN' BOOGIE/Rounder]
 MFILISENE MAGUBANE - Isithwala Mnjonjo [WOZA SIHAMBE/Celluloid]  Acoustic-
     electric groovin' South African music
 THE COWLICKS - Joe Feraille [NORTH BY NORTHEAST: ROOTS, ROCK &c./North-
     eastern]  Roots-rock compilation; never heard of this band, but it's
     a cover of a *very* old Cajun song.
 ZACHARY RICHARD - Reveille [BAYOU DES MYSTERES/Arzed]  Passionate and
     electrifying tale of the Acadian expulsion.
 FREEDY JOHNSTON - Evie's Tears [THIS PERFECT WORLD/Elektra]  Great stuff.
     Second album by terrific singer/songwriter, and would be an asset
     to any show on this list.
 A set of new and not-so-new Finnish folk/roots music ...
 TROKA - Breakdowns [TROKA/Olarin Musiikki]  Very young band performing new
     and traditional tunes.
 ARTO JARVELA - Hellstrand 1990 [POLSKA DIFFERENTE/Oart]  Top fiddler of
     bands like JPP, Niekku, et al., in his solo debut.
 OHILYONTI - Musta Naamio [SANDELS ON/Olarin Musiikki]
 VARTTINA - Kyla Vuotti Uutta Kuuta [SELENIKO/Green Linnet-Xenophile]  One
     of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.  "The village waits for
     the new moon."
 THE IGUANAS - Boom Boom Boom [NUEVO BOOGALOO/Margaritaville-MCA]
 JULUKA - Umfazi Omdala [UBUHLE BEMVELO/Rhythm Safari]  By request.
 A musical tribute to the 1994 World Cup Winners ...
 OLODUM - Cabra da Peste (The Brave One) [10 YEARS]
 OS PARALAMAS DO SUCESSO - Trac Trac [OS GRAOS/EMI Brasil]
 DUDA DA PASSIRA - Forro da Minha Terra [FORRO:  MUSIC FOR MAIDS AND
     TAXI DRIVERS/Globestyle]  Forro, sort of the "zydeco of Brasil";
     roots music based on vocal, accordion and triangle.  There are more
     modern forro bands now, not unlike the case with zydeco.
 CAETANO VELOSO - Outro Retrato [ESTRANGIERO]
 IVAN LINS - Awa Yio [AWA YIO]
 It's a good thing Brasil won.  I don't know what I would have done if
 Italy had won.  Re Niliu, Franco Battiato ... Nino Rota and Dean Martin?
 CLIFTON CHENIER - Ca M'appel Fou [BOGALUSA BOOGIE/Arhoolie]  By request.
 TASSO - Les Blues de Basile [VIENS A MA MAISON/Swallow]  Second album
     by young and very traditional Cajun band, produced by Michael Doucet.
     An Amedee Ardoin song, very evocative of Amedee's style and spirit.
 AL BERARD & ERROL VERRET - La Valse du Nord et du Sud (The Waltz of the
     North and the South) [C'EST DANS LA SANG CADIEN/Swallow]
 BEAUSOLEIL - Pierrot Grouillette et Mamselle Josette [PARLEZ-NOUS A BOIRE/
     Arhoolie]
 FRENCH FRITH KAISER THOMPSON - Loch Lomond [INVISIBLE MEANS/Windham Hill]
     John, Fred, Henry and Richard, that is, with RT on vocals on this
     great rockin' version of the hoary old Scots standard.
 MICK MOLONEY, EUGENE O'DONNELL & SEAMUS EGAN - Gan ainm/Emily's [THREE
     WAY STREET/Green Linnet]  Three generations of Irish musicians; some
     superb flute playing from Seamus.
 EINNIU - Ca/ Raibh Tu/ Are/ir? (Where Were You Last Night?) [EINNIU/
     Clo/ Iar-Chonnachta]  Contemporary Irish Gaelic country-folk-rock
     songs from Connemara.
 BRENDAN O'REGAN - A Change in the Weather/Larrissey's Favourite [A WIND
     OF CHANGE/Mulligan]  Solo debut from great Irish bouzouki-ist.
 UNCLE TUPELO - The Long Cut [ANODYNE/Sire-Reprise]  By request.
 THE SNEETCHES - ... and I'm Thinking [BLOW OUT THE SUN/Alias]  Neat new
     release from Bay Area alternative-pop band.
 ENGINE ALLEY - Spare Me [ENGINE ALLEY/Mother Records]  Finally, this
     Irish band gets its release out, on U2's label.  This track's
     instrumental
 KITCHENS OF DISTINCTION - What Happens Now [live on Gumbo, 10-11-92]
     From a very rare live acoustic performance.
 VELOCITY GIRL - The All-Comsumer [SIMPATICO/Sub Pop]  Heard this recently
     and liked it; reminds me of The Reivers.
 CORDELIA'S DAD - Delia [HOW CAN I SLEEP?/OKra]  Electic folk band who only
     does traditional songs; this one's also on the new Johnny Cash.
 CHRIS SMITHER - Friend of the Devil [ANOTHER WAY TO FIND YOU/Flying Fish]
     By Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter.
 LUKA BLOOM - The Fertile Rock [TURF/Reprise]
 DAVID GRAY - Shine [A CENTURY ENDS/Caroline]  Excellent Welsh singer/
     songwriter, mostly acoustic.  Highly recommended.
 JOHN MOONEY - In The Night [TESTIMONY/Domino]  New Orleanian blues
     guitarist; this track with Dr. John on piano.
 DALTON REED - Never Never Land [WILLING AND ABLE/Bullseye Blues] R&B
     and soul singer from Lafayette, La.
 DERRICK SHEZBIE - Paul Barbarin's Second Line [SPODIE'S BACK/Qwest-Reprise]
     Formerly (?) of the ReBirth Brass Band, with whom he started at age 10.
     Now 19, this is his solo debut.  Modern jazz influences but firmly
     rooted in traditional jazz and brass band sounds.
 SONNY BOY WILLIAMSON - No Nights By Myslef [GOIN' IN YOUR DIRECTION/
     Alligator]
 DAVID GRISMAN & TONY RICE - The Prisoner's Waltz [TONE POEMS: THE SOUNDS
