     time, from this pre-zydeco era musician who's still at it.

 PETER ROWAN - Midnight Moonlight [PETER ROWAN/Flying Fish]  Cobbled
     together from different 1978 live performances, including McCabe's
     here in Santa Monica.
 
 The 1:00am featured artist ... The Accordion!  I threatened to do this,
 and the terrifying thing is that I could have done three hours of this.
 I decide to keep it to one set, unfortunately.
 JUAN LUIS GUERRA - La Cosquillita [single/Karen Records]  Apparently from
     a forthcoming album.  This Dominican merengue master teams with
     merengue accordion whiz Francisco Ulloa.
 CLIFTON CHENIER - Louisiana Blues [LOUISIANA BLUES AND ZYDECO/Arhoolie]
     from Clifton's first Arhoolie album, 1965.
 SEBATA SEBATA - Setumo [SHESHWE: MUSIC FROM THE MINES/Rounder]  from a
     collection of mostly Sotho music from migrant miners from Lesotho in
     South Africa.
 PHIL AND JOHNNY CUNNINGHAM of SILLY WIZARD - The Humours of Tulla/Toss

     [OUT IN THE NIGHT/Mulligan]  Excellent traditional playing from
     a band of Doolin-area locals in west Clare.

     Hannibal-Ryko]  with Clive Gregson and Christine Collister in the
     backing band.
 ANCIENT BEATBOX - Laride [ANCIENT BEATBOX/Cooking Vinyl]  Ancient dance
     tunes brought into this century with a srident beat, from
     Blowabella-ites Nigel Eaton (on hurdy-gurdy) and Paul James.
 CLIVE GREGSON & CHRISTINE COLLISTER - Love is a Strange Hotel [LOVE IS
     A STRANGE HOTEL/Rhino]  from their excellent album of covers; this
     is a Darden Smith-Boo Hewerdine song.

 VLADIMIR VYSOTSKY - Prervannyi Polet [HORIZON/Venda]  My Russian inter-
     preter wasn't handy, so I don't know the English title.  Sounds
     great, though ... sung, as always, with great passion.
 THE UKRAINIANS - Vorony/The Crows [VORONY/Cooking Vinyl]  I think this
     is out on Green Linnet now ...
 IVO PAPASOV - Hristianova Kopanitsa [BALKANOLOGY/Hannibal]  How the hell
     do you dance to something in 11/16 time?  I have enough trouble with
     4/4 ...
