THE POGUES with THE DUBLINERS - Jack's Heroes [YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH
YEAH/Island] In celebration of Ireland's 1 - 0 win over Italy in their

 LUKA BLOOM - Delirious [RIVERSIDE/Reprise]
 SEAN SMYTH - Reels: Jim McKillop's/Gerry Cronin's/Denis Langtou's
[THE BLUE FIDDLE/Mulligan] Debut album from excellent Irish fiddler
TOASTED HERETIC - An Enormous Request [ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER RIOT/
     Liquid Records]
ANDY WHITE - Vision of You [RAVE ON ANDY WHITE/MCA] Odd major-label
release; they didn't know what to do with him in the US, as usual.
This album was fairly political re: Belfast, and it just was lost here.
He's got a new one just out that I hope to get from my friend in
     Galway this week.

LUKA BLOOM - Background Noise [TURF/Reprise]
RON KAVANA & TERRY WOODS - Johnny [L.I.L.T.: FOR THE CHILDREN/Alias
Records UK] Originally done on Alias Ron Kavana's COMING DAYS
album; this version by London Irish Live Trust, a group of London-
based Irish musicians working for peace and justice in the North of
     Ireland.
MANU DIBANGO with PETER GABRIEL, LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO,
GEOFFREY ORYEMA, SINEAD O'CONNOR, et al. - Biko [WAKAFRIKA/Giant]
Outstanding project from Camerounian king of makossa, years in the
planning and making. Also appearances from King Sunny Ade, Papa
Wemba, Angelique Kidjo, and many more.
SEKOUBA DIABATE - Ka Souma Man [ELECTRIC AND ACOUSTIC MALI/Hemi-
     sphere]

Finally, after I forgot last week, a set in honor of the marriage of Rob
Meitus of the Dorkestra, and Carrie Newcomer, in Indiana last weekend:
ROBERT SHANNON MEITUS and the DORKESTRA - The Hat Song [100
FLOWERS/Scratch Records] with Lisa Germano on mandolin
CARRIE NEWCOMER - 1000 Miles Away [VISIONS AND DREAMS/Windchime]
also with Lisa Germano on mandolin, plus the Dorkestra
ROBERT SHANNON MEITUS and the DORKESTRA - My Hometown [SIDEWAYS
     SOUTH/Scratch]
CARRIE NEWCOMER - Who Have You Been (and who are you now) [AN
     ANGEL AT MY SHOULDER/Philo]

LATIN PLAYBOYS - Ten Believers [LATIN PLAYBOYS/Slash] by request.
CONJUNTO ALMA JAROCHA - La Guacamaya [SONES JAROCHOS/Arhoolie]
Beautiful Mexican traditional music from Veracruz.
THE BLAZERS - How You Make Me Feel [SHORT FUSE/Rounder] East L.A.'s
     own, produced by Cesar Rosas.

TROUT FISHING IN AMERICA - Who Are These People? [WHO ARE THESE
     PEOPLE?/Trout Records] Their latest.
BECK - Fourteen Rivers, Fourteen Floods [ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE/
K Records] Recorded in '93, this is a bare, acoustic, home-recorded
(actually basement-recorded) folk/country album, with Scott Plouf
of the Spinanes on drums, and my friend Pablo's brother Mario (Beck's
roommate) on bongos ... small world.
CHRIS GAFFNEY - Quiet Desperation [MI VIDA LOCA/Hightone] by request.
JOHNNY CASH - Delia's Gone [JOHNNY CASH/American Recordings]

MAIREAD NI MHAONAIGH and FRANKIE KENNEDY - Reels: Tommy Peoples'
[CEOL ADUAIDH/Green Linnet] The first proto-Altan album, recently
re-released on Green Linnet from Gael-Linn.
THE TEXAS KELLYS - Stay All Night [STAY ALL NIGHT/Mulligan] Terrific
Irish country-bluegrass-roots-rock band, led by Jimmy Kelly and
with former Waterboy Steve Wickham on fiddle and mandolin; this is
     the classic Bob Wills tune.
LUKA BLOOM - Sunny Sailor Boy [TURF/Reprise] A song written by
current Waterboy Mike Scott, and with Maire/ad Ni/ Mhaonaigh on
     backing vocals. By request.

UNCLE TUPELO - Graveyard Shift [NO DEPRESSION/Rockville] Country-punk
from their first album. Have I mentioned how bummed I am that they
     broke up?
BROWNIE FORD - Don't Let The Deal Go Down [STORIES FROM MOUNTAINS,
SWAMPS AND HONKY-TONKS/Flying Fish] Revered north Louisiana
country-folk singer. With D. L. Menard on lead guitar, David Doucet
on rhythm guitar and Hackberry Rambler Ben Sandmel on drums.
THE BLUERUNNERS - Go On, Get Out [THE CHATEAU CHUCK/Monkey Hill]
Very country-sounding song, that finally gets noisy at the very end.
     Great zydeco-roots-rock from Lafayette.
FREEDY JOHNSTON - In The New Sunshine [CAN YOU FLY?/Bar None] by
     request.

Too lazy to get together a 1:00am featured artist segment, I put together a
2:00am set of music by bands I saw all on the same bill at the House of Blues
 on Friday night:
JAMES HARMAN BAND - Grindin' Bump [TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY/Black
     Top]
THE DIRTY DOZEN BRASS BAND with DR. JOHN - It's All Over Now [VOODOO/
     Columbia]
THE FIVE BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA featuring CLARENCE FOUNTAIN - Look
Where He Brought Me From [DEEP RIVER/Elektra Nonesuch American
     Explorer Series]
THE BLASTERS - I'm Shakin' [THE BLASTERS COLLECTION/Slash]

LYLE LOVETT - Family Reserve [JOSHUA JUDGES RUTH] By request.
RICHARD THOMPSON - 1952 Vincent Black Lightning (live)
[I MISUNDERSTOOD Promo EP] By request.

     April 1993]
DEAN MAGRAW - Turn the Key [BROKEN SILENCE/Acoustic Music]

OHILYONTI - Jaakoon Kameleillaan [SANDELS ON/Olarin Musiikki] Wild
"Balatonian" music from this fun and wacky band of Finnish roots
     musicians.
MATTO CONGRIO - Music for a Found Harmonium [MATTO CONGRIO/Lyricon]
Galician band from Spain, with influences from Irish to reggae. Great
version of this tune, with gaita (Galician bagpipes); I collect versions
     of this tune.
NOITAREGA - Xota de Lavadores [NOITAREGA/Sonifolk] More hardcore
trad. Galician music than Matto Congrio.
THE NEW ORLEANS KLEZMER ALL-STARS - Zeyde Tantz [THE NEW ORLEANS
     KLEZMER ALL-STARS/Stretchy Records]

BRUCE DAIGREPONT - Petit Mamou [PETIT CADEAU/Rounder]
