The set list was essentially the same as others that have been posted earlier, with over half of Anodyne, almost half of March and Still Feel Gone, and, unfortunately, nothing at all from No Depression. As others have noted, Jeff's voice has improved. This is an understatement. Jay has an amazing voice and style, but last night I found myself enjoying Jeff's singing much more. Jay seemed sluggish and lazy, and not altogether happy to be playing--probably tired, which I fully understand. But Jeff was full of energy, sang VERY well, and seemed to really enjoy himself. Their harmonies were just great. It's funny. Everything about their performance--Jeff's vocals, their harmonies, the guitar work, the violin, the drumming--sounded MUCH better live than it does on their albums. They were amazingly tight, and there was just more "going on"--the songs were more exciting, and more rocking. "Satan" was just incredible, as was "Sandusky" (except for Jay's lazy lead--he seemed to leave parts out). "Chickamauga" and "Anodyne" are both great songs, but they were even better live. Uncle Tupelo's just a great live band. ____________________________________________________________________ | Jeff Ganson jganson@u.washington.edu | | University of Washington School of Law, Seattle | | Finger for PGP Public Key | |____________________________________________________________________|
