:::::::::::::: WHISKEY BOTTLE :::::::::::::: Date: Wed, 9 Feb 1994 18:25:13 -0800 From: Caleb Rush Subject: whiskey bottle chords Well, Jake's been hassling me for a while now to post some chords to the list, and I'd hate to set a precedent that suggests that his pestering me actually pays off, but here they are anyway. By the way, if anyone spots errors, please let me know. And could anyone with a bootleg of UT doing Cortez the Killer let me know? I know some folks posted recently that they'd been at shows where they played Cortez. I'd love to hear UT's version (the closest I came was Jay playing the chords during the soundcheck at Slim's in San Francisco this past November). | A / / | D / / | A / / | G / / | D / / | D A / / | | A / / | G / / | D / / | D A / / | | A / / | G / / | D / / | D A / / | | F#m / / | D / / | E / / | Esus / / | | F#m / / | D / / | E / / | Esus / / | VERSE 1: A D A F#m Persuaded, paraded, inebriated, in doubt E Esus D A D E Esus Still aware of everything life carries on without A D A F#m Cause there's one too many faces with dollar sign smiles E Esus D A I got to find the shortest path to the bar for a while CHORUS: G D D A A long way from happiness A G D D A In a three hour away town A G D D A Whiskey bottle over Jesus Bm D E Esus Not forever, just for now Bm D E Esus Not forever, but just for now VERSE 2: There's a trouble around, it's never far away The same trouble's been around for a life and a day I can't forget the sound cause it's here to stay The sound of people chasing money and money getting away CHORUS PEDAL STEEL GUITAR SOLO (same chords as a verse) VERSE 3: In between the dirt and disgust there must be Some air to breathe and something to believe Liquor and guns, the sign says quite plain Somehow life goes on in a place so insane CHORUS | A / / | D / / | A / / | F#m / / | | E / / | Esus / / | D / / | A || Notes: The song is in three; I use "|" to mean a bar, and "/" to mean a beat. I used this notation because I thought it might make the intro a little clearer. I hope it's not just confusing. Let me know if you have suggestions about a better way to do it. The Esus chords are played 022200; just start with your regular E chord (022100) and move your index finger from the first to the second fret. Jay doesn't just play all the chords straightforwardly (of course). For example, on the D in the second bar of the song, he plays a little run: F#, E, D (1st string 2nd fret, 1st string open, 2nd string 3rd fret). And on some of the As (especially the intro), he plays the 2nd string open (what might be called an Aadd9, I don't really know), and then plays the 2nd string at the 2nd fret (like in a regular A chord).
