::::::::::::::::::::: Last Minute Shakedown ::::::::::::::::::::: by J. Farrar As played by Son Volt from the album "Straightaways" (1997) Transcribed by Dave Shapiro (buck@ecentral.com) 6-string guitar, standard tuning (EADGBE) Chords used: --3-------2-----0------0------0------3---------------------- --3-------3-----3------3------1------3---------------------- --0-------2-----2------0------2------0---------------------- --0-------0-----0------2------2------2---------------------- -(2)------0-----0------0------0------3---------------------- --3--------------------------------------------------------- G(5) D Dsus2 A7sus4 Am Cadd9 Some riffs: Rhythm Figure 1: Rhythm Figure 2: --0--0----0-(0)---|--0--0-----0------| --2--2^3--2--0----|--2--2^3---2------| ---------------0--|------------------| ------------------|------------------| ------------------|------------------| ------------------|------------------| This piece is straightforward, with the exception of a brief change to 2/4 time in the chorus and intro. The measures that are 2/4 all happen on the G chord, and this is notated as *G*. Once again, I must stress that my skills as a lyrics transcriber stink. As wonderful as Jay's words are, I can't make some of 'em out. Corrections are always appreciated. Oh yeah, one brief comment about chord voicings. The pedal steel here (it might be lap steel; can't tell) helps make the chords happen. For instance, over the G chord, the steel strikes an F#. This makes for a nice Gmaj7 chord, which you could emulate by changing the 3rd fret on the high E to a 2nd fret (that would make playing the 2nd fret on the A string all but impossible; oh well). Also, on the A7sus4, the steel plays a C#, which clashes nicely with the guitar's D. If you like, you can change the A7sus4 to an A7 by fretting the 2nd fret of the B string.
